Installing a green roof

Designing the building

A green roof must be specified at the design stage to enable us to design and manufacture a building with the correct roof pitch and additional strengthening.

The maximum roof angle for a Garden Affairs green roof is 18 degrees for a ridge roof.

Installation by Garden Affairs

The Garden Affairs installation team will take care of the whole project from installation of the building to finishing the green roof. Fitting of a green roof is carried out by a 4 person team due to the weight of the materials.
Buildings with internal canopies must have post supports

Please Note: Garden Affairs green roof system is not suitable for buildings with projected canopies.

Water proof membrane

We will select and install the most appropriate membrane system for your building. Particular importance is given to the adhesion of the membrane ensuring it will last as long as the building and provide a safe surface on which to install the sedum, for future maintenance and aftercare work.

Moisture retentive matting

Above the waterproof membranes, a blanket of moisture retentive fleece is installed to ensure a steady supply of water to the roots and prevent water run off. Additional blanket is laid over the apex of the roof.

Installing the sedum

The sedum is supplied on specially developed mats that incorporate a landscape fabric, 3D geo-textile membrane and lifetime supply of growth material.

The mats are laid in place and butted together ensuring there are no gaps in the sedum.

Facia and Barge boards

Timber facia and bargeboards are fitted to provide an attractive finish to the building.
